Just became a member of Weston A Price Foundation.
What does this mean and who is this, you ask...
Dr Weston Price was a dentist around the early 1900s. He had a passion for discovering how and why different cultures developed different teeth, bone and facial structures, and how these structures started changed over his time. At this time, diets started transforming from traditional/cultural/tribal diets to the modern western diet we have today.
Dr Price spent a decade travelling the world, living with several different tribal groups (including Aborigines!) who were not yet exposed to our modern diet. They ate what was provided to them on their lands from plants and animals. They ate according to their traditions, ancestral teachings and instinct.
Dr Price observed that ALL cultures and tribes he visited who ate a traditional (non-modern) diet, had perfect health, and were resilient to all disease. They had perfect facial and teeth bone structures. Cancer, thyroid problems, cholesterol problems, heart disease, hormone problems, gut issues and mental issues did not exist in these groups.
This period of time was at the cusp of change in regards to nutrition and food - as tribes were being introduced to the modern diet of convenience, and started to move away from their traditional foods, he observed that that they started to become less resilient to disease, started to become ill and died from diseases they never had in their groups ever before. Their their bone, facial and teeth structures started to become deformed (ever worn braces??).
His biggest observation was therefore that, modern NUTRITION is the biggest culprit for causing illness, genetic and skeletal deformities, weight problems, hormone problems and mental issues, resonating many of the problems we experience today. These have all unfortunately become a normal part of our lives since the modern diet was introduced.
Dr Price wrote a 600+ page book detailing his discoveries and his observations from his expeditions around the 1920s. This was just the beginning of his documentation on nutritional change. As the world has evolved over time, to the present where most people around the world no longer eat as their ancestors did, we now face so much disease and ill-health. Our world is getting fatter and sicker. Rapidly and scarily.
Most of us are not being educated properly on food, nor do we any longer have the instinct to eat what is right for OUR individual body/genotype. I do not blame anyone as nutrition these days is a can of worms, comprising of thousands of different theories and educations.
I know I am sharing one of these "theories", you might think, however but my mission and passion as a Functional Health Coach, is to seek the TRUTH and share as much of it as I possibly can with you. My passion and mission is to help you to eat better and live happier healthier lives. And share this with your children too. My philosophies resonate much of what the Weston Price Foundation teaches.
I am so passionate about this, that I will start studying Nutritional Medicine later this year on the journey to knowing and then sharing even more with you.
I will be referencing many articles from the Weston Price Foundation over time, including findings and truths regarding Low Fat Dairy, Soy and other dietary issues which we are not necessarily aware of in our modern Western diets. I do not blame anyone for not knowing these things, as a lot of mis-information is more prominent in our society than quality information regarding our health.
I am sure that this will open some great discussions.
